I am going with MsM and friends to the Traditional Panto at the Theatre Royal, Stratford*, tonight. Three of the party will be from Abroad - one Basque, one French and one Swedish. We are looking forward to seeing what they make of this uniquely British thespian institution

I remember that there was a standup routine by an American comedian in which he attempted to explain panto conventions (the Principal Boy who's a girl, the Dame who's a man) to an increasingly incredulous imagined listener: "And they let kids see this??" ;)

Does anybody remember the comedian's name? I don't suppose the sketch is available online, is it?

*that's Stratford, London E15, not Stratford-upon-Avon!

I don't know why, but the thought of you at a panto tickles me Nick...;)

Not English, nooooooo.... (Irish)

Damn, I've heard that routine, but I can't remember who it was.

Poor old Mickey Rooney appeared in panto in Sunderland:
Reviews said he was a bit dire....
I like the idea of a trad panto, but the modern variation with washed out soap stars (pun intended) is a bit dire.
