The first part of my commute is about a mile and a half of single carriageway country lane with hedges each side. There are two 'straights' and about half way along there's a roughly ninety degree left turn (outward journey) which of course is 'blind'.
This morning, around 8am, some complete tw@t in a Focus decided to overtake just as I was slowing for the bend (in primary) and moved to the opposite side of the road to take the corner to get past me (I was wearing my hi-viz jersey so he must have seen me well before - ie no screeching of brakes). We hit the apex of the corner at the same time. Fortunately, by a miracle, there was no other traffic. If there had been (young mother with kids?) or he'd swerved into me the consequences don't bear thinking about. Unless this plonker had a death wish it's inconceivable to me how anyone could imagine they might make it. I just can't believe the idiocy, to save what, a couple of seconds? Holy cr@p!
I've read some hair-raising tales on CC, and I usually have at least one 'moment' per day, but this has to be the worst 'driving' I've personally encountered in three months of commuting, easily beating the overtake on a mini roundabout last week.
I love cycling and all the benefits it brings, but any more of these brain dead motons and I think I'll return to getting the bus to work!
