The first part of my commute is about a mile and a half of single carriageway country lane with hedges each side. There are two 'straights' and about half way along there's a roughly ninety degree left turn (outward journey) which of course is 'blind'.

This morning, around 8am, some complete tw@t in a Focus decided to overtake just as I was slowing for the bend (in primary) and moved to the opposite side of the road to take the corner to get past me (I was wearing my hi-viz jersey so he must have seen me well before - ie no screeching of brakes). We hit the apex of the corner at the same time. Fortunately, by a miracle, there was no other traffic. If there had been (young mother with kids?) or he'd swerved into me the consequences don't bear thinking about. Unless this plonker had a death wish it's inconceivable to me how anyone could imagine they might make it. I just can't believe the idiocy, to save what, a couple of seconds? Holy cr@p!

I've read some hair-raising tales on CC, and I usually have at least one 'moment' per day, but this has to be the worst 'driving' I've personally encountered in three months of commuting, easily beating the overtake on a mini roundabout last week.

I love cycling and all the benefits it brings, but any more of these brain dead motons and I think I'll return to getting the bus to work!

That's odd..... I had the same today - a guy in a silver focus tried to overtake, and almost ended up mounting a pinch point - complete with streeet light and keep left sign..... luckily he aborted it before he hit either me or it - but i fully agree - what on earth goes through people's heads some times?

mate took me thru his cycling root over the bolton moors, as i was panting behind ;) he was explaining how some drivers try to get past him, even on blind bends..

he had about 5 incidents of 'then the idiot sees someone coming the over way and had to jam on his brakes,, then i cycled past'..

sadly , a blind hill/rise and a stupid driver overtaking some peds and crossing the center line is how a colleague was killed on his motorbike 20 yrs ago........ so yeah,, it happens..

Surely silver focus's are not been taken over by retards who fail the 4x4, I own the road brigade qualifications. Earlier this month, I was on a road with a 90dg bend to the left, but there was a minor road which joined the main road that I was on from the right on the bend too. I was in the center of the road, indicating right to take the minor road, when this silver focus came around my outside, I had to lower my hand to prevent hitting the windscreen, the female passenger kept looking backwards and forwards between me and the driver looking quite concerned and saying something to the driver, initially I thought the car was also turning right, but no the car turned left in front of me still following the main road making me swerve back into the left lane.

What I could not understand was, there was plenty of room to pass me on the inside, so why did they go around my outside, once again I was lucky that nothing came round the bend from the left as no doubt they would have swerved into me.

Oddly enough this has happened three times this year been overtaken on the outside, just as I'm turning right. The worst was a green sports car which I initially saw well behind me and plenty of time to signal and move to the centre of the road, plenty of room on the inside, but they screamed past me on the outside almostt on the point of me turning, just as well I kept my eye on it. Afterwards I wished that another vehicle had pulled out of the junction in our direction, as it was a blind one, especially a tractor etc. That would have sorted out the green sports car.

Had the same a couple of weeks ago - twice in 2 miles when out on a weekend training run - blind turns, wide overtakes into oncoming lane ....when they can't see..... lucky they were !

Never had that before on these roads I train on (not my commute btw) - was just so odd.........
