The lack of summer cyclists wobbling around and holding you up... and nobody steals your space on the bike rack

...nice warm traffic jams

getting to work and having a hot shower

thinking condescending thoughts about the collegaue who doesn't envy me going home in that weather when I'm perfectly dry and warm on the whole commute

knowing you're not sat in the sub-zero/tropical rainforest climate of the train

not having to sit in a confined space with other commuters who are sneezing and coughing and not covering their mouths

Good things about winter...

When it's cold out, steam pours off you sat at lights, or when you are locking up the bike.... everyone else is shuffling about feeling cold, and there is gallons of steam coming off you - love that...it's cool.

That sound brilliant! I've never seen that happen, but I certainly am looking forward to it, I'll mind to stay away from Churches, and the like.

Me, I love winter - fresher air, pleasant weather, the spectacular scenery when it is snowing. Although I would imagine that it would be a nightmare for cycists...

Which leads me to my one benefit for the said group: You finally begin to appreciate our overdependance on cars, since the roads are gritted, and the cars make short work out of the snow / rain before it turns to ice.

I guess it makes one also appreciate the warmth and comfort of home/work too.

Looks of envy from car-trapped colleagues when you ride to work in ALL weathers. They have a secret admiration for your determination, but are too embarrassed by their own lack of moral fibre to praise you.

LOL!
Course they do praise you. Usually disguised by some variation of "you're crazy" or "I bet you were mad enough to cycle in today weren't you".

All of the above but love the "steaming" at traffic lights and the looks it gets from pedestrians and motorists

One from me is blood seems to stop flowing from your knees faster after an off on the ice/snow/greasy road in colder weather !

No queue for the shower at work.

The breaking glass sound of being the first to ride across a frozen puddle.

Watching BMWs slide around in the ice, well done you for choosing a rear wheel drive car. Good choice.

with one of those short dogs that's got a hugely wide chest and walks like Spike from Tom and Jerry legging it about somewhere nearby completely out of control.

Ah the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, you get one free when you sign on around here.
People actually have photos of them on the spare wheel carriers of their Shoguns.

I used to chuck a couple of bags of coal in the back of mine. Either that or phone work saying I can't get the car off the drive and up the road! Had some near misses with the driveway wall a few times too! Having said that with this Focus estate I've got now, trying to get onto the drive in the snow can be very exciting, can't wait for it to snow next so I can cycle to work in it though.

A long shot

After the solstice the days start getting longer again, much less depressing than the days getting shorter!
