I think I will drink less between New Year and the FNRttC season, and then segue effortlessly into the disgusting kind of display I learned from Rich P. The drinking, that is, not the mincing about wearing only twiglets.

I'm definitely going to drink less between now and the New Year - it's the least I can do.

I shall also steer clear of the Elderflower mincing ale that la belle Claud made me drink in Wales.

I usually try to stay dry through January so I could have a go at the three months - if I can stop a bit early as my birthday's a bit before the end of March

The possible fly in the ointment is a two week business trip to Japan at the end of January. I have no problem asking for iced tea (unsweetened proper tea - usually oolong - not that fizzy sweet muck) instead of beer at business dinners but we stay in a hotel which has a sort of happy hour with free drinks from 18.30pm - they dole out some very nice wines and good champagne. My colleagues do tend to try to be up in the lounge for 6.30 on the dot while I go off to the gym and get there later but it's still an effort to drag them out for dinner before the free drinks stop at 8.30pm. Even more unfortunately, the staff know I like a glass of champagne (and we've been staying in the hotel for more than 15 years) and will always come over bearing a tall chilled glass and a bottle when I arrive in the lounge - very very hard to resist

I failed miserably last year. Honestly, I'm not sure I could last three months. As a true alcoholic, I'm not sure I could last a week.

Fine. I'm going to go and enjoy New Year's eve, and will apologise profusely when I start drinking again next year. Count the hours days.

I have a 28 day enforced abstinence every time I join a ship. Doing that 6 times a year is more than adequate.
Not having beer in the airport bar on the way home is an unbearable thought.
