I usually try to stay dry through January so I could have a go at the three months - if I can stop a bit early as my birthday's a bit before the end of March

The possible fly in the ointment is a two week business trip to Japan at the end of January. I have no problem asking for iced tea (unsweetened proper tea - usually oolong - not that fizzy sweet muck) instead of beer at business dinners but we stay in a hotel which has a sort of happy hour with free drinks from 18.30pm - they dole out some very nice wines and good champagne. My colleagues do tend to try to be up in the lounge for 6.30 on the dot while I go off to the gym and get there later but it's still an effort to drag them out for dinner before the free drinks stop at 8.30pm. Even more unfortunately, the staff know I like a glass of champagne (and we've been staying in the hotel for more than 15 years) and will always come over bearing a tall chilled glass and a bottle when I arrive in the lounge - very very hard to resist

Hotel and international travel are the most difficult for me and I travel overseasalmost week-in week-out.
The major issue is finding alternatives to a few beers at the bar in the evening. Many foreign hotel bars do not have a great range of non-alcoholic beverages.

Definitely doing it again this year - paying off the pre-Christmas over-indulgences is the main reason. While it didn't make me a better person, not having a hangover for 3 months seems to have cured me of hangovers entirely!

I made it though the whole of the 3 months last year without any alcohol and my habits definitely changed (as did my waistline). This year, I will be almost* entirely alcohol free until Easter. Hopefully, I will shed another stone in time for the spring running season!

*I have to fly to London in February. I don't do flights without beer and gin. Even at 6:30am.

It was mentioned in a comedy routine a while back that it doesn't matter which word you use "I'm getting completely xxxxxxx" will always be interpreted as drunk....

theclaud is great exponent of this art, as she'd attest, but she's probably completely thesaurused by this time of an eve.

As an epileptic large amounts of alcohol are not good for ensureing that the tablets that keep me fit free keep working. So tonight I will probably have a glass of something to toast the new year and that will it until my birthday (which is only 11 days away) when I shall probably have a bottle of cider. Don't know when the next drink will be after that.

I once drank tomato juice and Worcester Sauce for a month,(as my 'bar' drink - not all the time 3bm ) in May 1976 as my team mate Tony and I were embarking on a bit of a cricketing summer. The rest of the year was not memorable (or should that be unremembered?) - but we were super fit to deal with amnesia!
Apart from that - nothing. I can take it or leave it...I just do what my body tells me to.

Yeah right... ;)

I've been really unwell over Christmas and yesterday's Rochefort was my first beer for more than a week, so I might do a month off again but it won't be January as I've a stack of Belgian beer to get through before it goes off.
