That's nothing, there is one road in Morley, West Yorkshire where Leeds City Council have actually admitted defeat and are resurfacing it, it was full of craters like that, from end to end and was quite a busy road as well, other pot holes in the Leeds area seem to have been repaired by throwing a shovel full of tarmac in, then patting it down with the said shovel!

The stupid thing there was that I led a forum ride through there when there was an alternative road only 300 metres longer with 30 metres of extra ascent. I was not used to road closures being quite that effective against bicycles!

I've got used to proper road barriers across roads in my bit of France meaning 'even for cyclists and walkers', so I don't even bother looking to check. This was the reason for the last one:
Fortunately there was a lovely little detour for this one, which is not always the case.

That would make quite a nice rockery (prone to occasional flooding) without two big feet in it.
Oh yes it's right near us. Must have been the worst stretch of (allegedly) surfaced road I've ever seen. They attempted a "resurface" a few years ago by just throwing a load of top dressing at it. I don't think they even bothered with rolling it.
Within a few weeks all the potholes were empty of the gravel which was then forming nice drifts at the entrance to the side roads.Now it's a really nice smooth bit of tarmac. Let's see how long before someone digs it up and makes it crap again.

It's the West Somerset Railway's 'Spring Steam Spectacular' this weekend; lots of activity and several visiting engines. Should be very busy!

Going back to the OP and Garmin's pothole warning thingy. As above I switched it off because I found it distracting, but I still look at the warnings on the map. But gradually the whole of the UK road network is being covered with pothole warnings, beginning with areas popular with cyclists. So the prevalence of warnings doesn't mean more potholes, it just means more cyclists with Garmins reporting potholes. It's a kind of heat map but focusing on cyclists who use this feature.
Here's a view of the Surrey Hills.
Aggregated, there are 17 reports around Peaslake and 14 around Box Hill. Are these particularly holey areas? No I don't think they are. There are holes, yes, but there are holes bloody everywhere.
