I put this picture in to remind folks what a pint looks like - BBC news story stylee

It is feared that the typical price of a pint could rise to as much as £4.

Poor barley harvests in Eastern Europe and export controls imposed by Russia threaten to hit brewers while they are forced to push through VAT and duty rises.

The British Beer & Pub Association said there had been a 26 per cent increase in beer duty during the last two years alone.

Home brewing has been growing since the economic downturn.

Has anyone got experince of brewing their own and how does it compare to a pub pulled pint?

how much barley does it take to make a pint of beer?

Of far greater concern is the drop in Russian wheat harvests. If the price of bread rises for people who are hard-pressed at it is, there'll be hell to pay.

Something else to blame on the Gov't - of course if they really cared about social cohesion, they would abolish beer duty altogether.....that would be too working class though. Dream on. Thanks Dave - it's no good blaming the Russians!

Depends how desparate you are. Mine's okay (at least it doesn't make me sick).

Now why would they want to do that? Even if they did, we still get clobbered with the VAT!!! And that is also going up in january, remember.

It is one of the great swindles of time... double 'taxation' on booze.
And fuel...but we're less bothered with that becasue we ride, yes?!!!
