32 degrees tomorrow!

I've ridden in the high 30s, but really haven't enjoyed it. Commuting in the height of summer in London I just take it easy, pretend to pedal, still arrive at work hot and sweaty.

I wimped out today and drove to work in an air conditioned car. Makes the one year anniversary of me commuting by bike a bit of a damp squib, but I thought about going up that hill tonight in the afternoon heat with 14 kg of toddler on the back and just couldn't face it. I tell myself it would be unfair on him to have to be out in the sun... you know, lounging in his seat with a water bottle enjoying a bit of cyclist-created breeze and pointing out the sights. Child cruelty.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Glad im on night shift at least its cooling down a little by 7 pm and on the way home its been mid/high teen degrees .

Much better than a wind driven sleet and snow any day .

If you know what's good for you ...
It was 40C (104F) here in northern France yesterday. I've cycled in those temperatures many times before. I used to live near Lyon, and I've cycled in Greece, Spain and Italy. The hottest I've cycled in was 42C. It's fine so long as you hydrate often, wear a sun hat and cover your exposed skin with sun cream. Walking is horrible, though!

I don't mind it. Most of the year is spend riding in cold, grey, miserable drizzle weather, so why not make the most of it while it lasts.

After suffering in the heat on the bus on Tuesday I decided to ride on Wednesday. It wasn't too bad, even took the longer (and harder) way home. Rode through the woods and stripped down to my sports bra, it was lovely to feel the breeze on my bare skin. I got some funny looks on the last mile through the village though  I was soaked when I finally got back, and I don't sweat much normally.
