Technology seems to have taken over life ...for better or worse computers, laptops, smart phone etc all take up an immense about of time an mental energy just to keep on top of the dam things. Whilst I like what they can do, I am getting to the point with them that I could screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmm!!!!

So frustrating...and complicated beyond reason imho.

Currently Virgin media, Talk mobile, Windows are all top of my list of who to shove up against a wall in front of a firing squad...all they do is sap money, energy and time. My mobile is not working today becaus ei seem to have exceeded an unlimited text allowance (wtf??) ,this laptop takes a week to boot up and shut down since it automatically tried to updsate 10 critical updates when it was working fine before, my landline with virgin is still costing line rental when I dont use it and have e mailed virgin at least 10 times to get it removed to totally deaf ears...my phone attached to the virgin line is broken so I can teven call them on there own dam phone line, ...seriously...life is to short....

Am i just different or are we all spending 75% of our waking lives trying to make all this hi tech stuff do what it says on the tin?

Aaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and breathe......

My niece exceeded her 5,000 texts a month limit, which I thought was depressingly crazy, but you managed to exceed 'unlimited' - how many texts did you actually send?!

I think they have some sort of fair use policy on the texts which can be anything from 2000 to 10,000 texts. Not really unlimited!!

I doubt i sent more than 20 texts..clearly there is something wrong...but i am getting numb to the constant failing of technologhy to delive ron what it promises...life is for living..breathing, riding, blue skies, sunshine...REALITY....these companies sell you any old BS and then leave you with a the learning curve of doom...and im actually a lot more pc literate than most others i know...especially th eolder generation...what chance do they have...

anyway...my strongest advice today is...NEVER get involved with VIRGIN MEDIA at any level, and never update the pc if it is working fine anyway.

I've got 'Unlimited Data' on my mobile contract .. it is only got for 1Gb though. So basically they are misselling, IMO.

As for tech taking over .. you're not blooming wrong, we're trying to cutback on our tech use, though we just bought a kindle each so are failing massively!

No way! Thats 166 messages per day every day for a month!
That's why I described it as 'depressingly crazy'!

I sat with her one evening when she was talking on one mobile, texting on another, running an MSN messenger window, Twitter and Facebook simultaneously. Then the landline phone rang. The look of stress and panic as she tried to handle all of that at the same time made me feel very sad.

Once things calmed down later on that evening, I asked if she really liked being a slave to that technology. She replied that she hated it, but her friends would think that she was an oddball or ignorant if they couldn't reach her at a moment's notice. 99% of the messages were just checking that everyone else was checking. Lots of 'cool', 'ace', 'wicked', 'slapper' etc., no real discussion about anything.

She met a friend of hers that she hadn't seen for months and there were a few moments of hugging and smiling, but soon they were both back on their mobiles, stoney-faced and texting away to other people.

I suppose that to a certain extent I am agreeing with BOAB!

I can't be arsed with stuff like Faceplant, Twitter etc. I'm sure they are a great way of keeping in touch but people get obsessed with them. And really do we need to know the ins and outs of our friends arses all day every day?
Like Colin I have a niece who is completely bereft if her phone goes down. She is a in her minute textspeak world in a room full of people.

It's kind of sad because she can be quite nice to talk to once she drags her consciousness back into the here and now. That happens less and less.
