The wonders of chilled/ refrigeration containers... all those hours on a ship and Sainsbury's can still sell them with a reasonable degree of freshness and add a huge mark-up. Wonder what the farmers got after all their weeks of hard work.
 
There was an interesting argument I read about "Fair Trade" and Food Miles

One argument says that the "Fair Trade" concept actually increases the distance food travels with an environmental impact, the other that the investment in Society is of greater value and outweighs the environmental considerations

This article is from the Fair Trade organisation, and does argue their side, however it does raise the relevant points
 
I read somewhere that Youngs catch fish in the North Sea. It then gets shipped to Asia to be breadcrumbed before being shipped back to the UK to be packaged.

Crazy.
