Even when you take it, because you can see the man in the van hurtling down hill towards you and you want to discourage the 'squeeze pass', the truly inept Mini Cooper driver will crest the blind summit behind you at excessive speed, find you in his path and still overtake. Without pausing for thought, or looking to see what is coming down the hill.

I got a twack as the door mirror caught me. He moments later got a couple of grands worth of damage to his offside and a push and a shove from wvm. And it's all my fault apparently. According to Mini Cooper man, anyway. WVM wasn't really talking in complete sentences

Eventually after agreeing with Mr MC that I paid no road tax and my bike is not registered and has no MoT and I pay no insurance, none of which, apart from the registration thing, is actually true but it seemed smart to just go along with his delusions, another of which was that I was riding in the middle of the road, I went on my way.

Leaving them to sort it out amongst themselves. Violence may have been involved.

Interesting, not sure if the right word is 'story' but I shall use that.

In this case there is no trouble with primary.
The trouble is the incompetent idiot in the Mini.

Definitely. You should never be going so fast that you are unable to avoid hazards. If he was cresting a hill he should have slowed to a speed that would alow him to react in an apropriate manner.

True dat.

Had I taken secondary, rather than moving over, he would have simply squeezed past, and I'd have probably been forced into an encounter with my least favourite drain cover in the whole county.

No. No. No.

In these parts you should ALWAYS be going so fast that you are unable to avoid hazards. If the speed limits weren't targets they wouldn't put them on round target shaped signs... Very important people hurtling to do very important things. And what is the point of owning a high performance car like a Mini Copper ROTFL if every commute isn't like the car chase from Bullitt.

Just another sh*t driver reluctant to accept that their driving is at fault.

How much time would they have lost (or money saved) by holding back a few seconds and passing when it's clear to do so?

You make a convincing argument. The whole highway code is in desperate need of a re-write.

Utter tosh! There probably isn't a lot wrong with the highway code. The issue here is common sense and the lack of it. I am an enthusiastic driver and I would be struck down by lightning if I said I never exceeded the speed limit but, there is a time and a place for everything and you always have to drive within the limits of the road and situation you can see ahead. A pretty good yardstick for limiting your driving enthusiasm is to think 'can you stop in the road you can see to be clear and what would happen if you met yourself coming then other way!'

I'm no 'safe speed' apologist but if people behaved reasonably we wouldn't need even a fraction of the rules and limits that are imposed on road users today.

For goodness sake get a 'king camera mate. We want to see the peanuts on YouTube, and we want everyone to point and laugh. Shaming this kind of 'kwittery in enough numbers is a powerful way to enact road culture change.
