It's a bit more complicated than that...
Are being relocated from Bristol to elsewhere. Not getting the chop.

As one who pays honestly for TV licenses I'm delighted that those many thousands who fail to pay will still be chased down.

I don't think they actually chase anyone down or least of all actually fine someone, more a case of sending out 'ooo's of pointless letters of various colours (mainly to houses that don't exist) and working on the law of averages that more people will pay due to the threat.

An article from 2008 showing the fine is cheaper than the license

They work on the principle that every address will have a TV and so should have a license, they will send out x,y, and z letter before a red letter. They *may* then visit the address. You of course can decline to answer their questions and let them into your house without a warrant.

I guess the phrase TV Nazi would stem from the fact the lge stores won't sell you any device capable of showing a picture without proof of address so they can pass it on to the BBC. I wouldn't mind too much but the content on the beeb is crap, the @stars@ overpaid and there are probably as many adverts on the BBC as there are on commercial tv in a sublimial way, non biased my arse.

WHY should I have to pay for a TV license if I only want to watch ITV C4 etc and not BBC??

i enjoy a number of national and local BBC radio services as well as their digital channels and the BBC website. I feel i get very good value for money, compare that to my sky subscription of £65 per month and i still get adverts!!

Our officers may visit the licensed place at any time to check that our records are correct and inspect TV equipment. However, you don’t have to let them into your home or business./

Like I said don't let them in.... no evidence... no fine. They also have to prove that you are using the equipment for viewing programs that are being shown at the time.

They are strong arm bully boy chancers. Now at the want of much criticism I am a Posty and about 4 years ago one of the lge building firms acquired a plot of land and permission to build 80 or so "homes". Before the first footing was poured all 80+ houses received a TV license letter (to the occupier), then another, and another and a red letter, despite on each occasion the letter being returned to sender. Due to the recession these 80 houses have been very sporadic iirc there are still around 20 to be completed with the others being finnished as they where sold of plot, as this stopped them receiving the same sequence of letters/ demands from tv licensing?? AS IT CHUFF,so evidently they aren't following up on their 'we will visit you' threats.

BTW I do pay for a tv license (not sure why).

They have sent about thirty threatening letters to my office over the years. I opened the first five, but they go straight in the bin unopened now. I've never replied to any of them. All they had to do was ask pleasantly and enclose a pre-paid envelope. Instead they act like bullies and expect me to update their database free of charge. They can bog off.:gun:

Leaving aside the fact the TV Licence is in fact a tax, the problem is that has been out-sourced to Crapita, who have a track record of being shhhhh... ameful and trousering large amounts for doing so.

They work on the assumption that everyone watches television and bombard every address without a licence with risible threatening letters: envelopes trimmed in red and carrying, on the outside, dire warnings of the consequences of WATCHING TELEVISION WITHOUT A LICENCE!!!!!!

In order to convince them that you are not undermining the integrity of the free world, you must (at your own expense) contact them to plead your innocence and then submit to an inspection to confirm that you are not a liar.

Watching programmes broadcast in realtime is a criminal offence (farcical in itself); the criminal law places the burden of proof on the accuser yet Crapita blithely ride roughshod over this.

Do the Police require that I prove I am not a driving illegally on the basis that I don't have a driving licence?

What if I was to send the Chairman of Crapita a letter requiring him to prove that he wasn't guilty of sex crimes, with the penalties for such offences emblazoned all over the envelope?

To the barricades!

They have no powers what so ever. They have been harrassing my step dad(who doesnt have a telly) with letters containing threats of action if not paid ect. So he phoned them, told them he doesnt have a telly and to stop bothering him. Next thing a knock on the door, you guessed it, a licence man. He was told to stop bothering him too, to which the man said he would be removed from the list until the three year period when he would be added again. He just bins the letters now, yes they sent one a week later, and will ignore them from now on.
