I like the title of the article 'The Helmet of Justice'

Hmm. It only starts recording after it detects an impact. Surely it should be recording on a loop, and stop recording, preserving its contents, a couple of minutes after the impact. If you don't capture the events leading up to the impact, it's pretty useless.

Nice idea though, has potential.

That is, obviously, what it does.

It's not what the article says it does.

he's right you know.....

it records AFTER impact - which is a bit daft although I guess carrying round enough batteries on yer bonce to keep 7 cameras running on loop was too impratical...

Must say I've never heard of hit-and-run drivers getting away "scott free". I guess if I want one of those, I'll having to start doing some pretty intensive core neck muscle exercises... Then I'll wear one of these, and ride around with an expressionless face, telling everyone that "resistance is useless... you will be assimilated...".

That seems bloody awful! It is relying on you hitting your head which most people manage to avoid when they fall off. Also, the camera quality is bad and with the frame rate, everything would be blurry.

Most of those systems phrase it in that way, what they mean is it keeps the recording when activated by an impact.

I don't know how you come to that conclusion. The article is pretty clear:
When the helmet detects impact via an accelerometer, it starts recording, theoretically capturing the accident ... The helmet can capture up to two hours of video after impact

As I say, they almost all phrase it that way as shorthand for 'save the loop recording in progress'. See the windscreen camcorders for cars which frequently use the same phrasing.

How is it shorthand for anything when it specifically states that the impact is what starts it recording? I don't see how you are getting from what the article clearly states it does to what you are guessing/assuming it does.
