I work at Fnaar's power supplier. Just stick him on the most extortionate rate we have; he won't notice and will continue to pay it forever and a day, no questions asked.

I am currently having my bank account emptied by NPower on a regular basis, but according to Uswitch.com, the others are equally as bad. It matters not a lot if I cut back on consumption, since their standing charges are now such a large proportion of the bill. Bar stewards; all of them!
How about changing to one without standing charges? I'm with Ecotricity who don't (currently) have standing charges. I dumped npower as soon as they brought in the standing charge.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?

I used to have a fridge with a faulty thermostat. I fitted a plug in timer with, 5 minute interval tabs, and set the tabs to loads of on/off positions so the fridge cycled on a timer to control the temperature. It had to be adjusted for summer and winter use but worked so well that it was like that for about 15 years.
I do that now.

Mine clapped out 6 months after a repair and rather than pay £50+ I gave it a try 18 months ago.
Room temperature is fairly stable and I normally advance the timer a bit after opening the freezer door.

A faulty batch of thermostats is unlikely so some other fault probably kills it.
