It was quite mild here this morning, near enough 10 deg C. I hovered about wearing a fleece over quite a thin LS jersey but didn't bother in the end. I also only put a thin pair of socks on instead of my usual woolies.

The temperature has now dropped and with the wind chill, it's about 1 deg C.

I'm really going to feel it when I ride home. Hooks ready for coats... and all that

The weather caught me out yesterday! 11.99 miles into my normal 12 mile commute, everything dandy. Didn't seem especially cold, then, argh it's a black ice special. Well chuffed with my reactions, caught the front wheel slide, then caught the back wheel slide, unfortunately full grip was suddenly regained and I got high sided stylishly landing clean on my right side. Big winded moment, nice pedestrian stopped to offer assitance.

After smarting for most of yesterday, trip to A&E this morning and hey presto, partially deflated right lung ........... or pneumothorax. Oops. Luckily it has been left to fix itself, rather than being drained. Rest time for me then.

Lesson learnt, even if it does not seem icy, it is. October to March, assume ice.

Thing is, this is the first proper winter I can remember in a while - where I am anyway. the previous three winters I've been cycle commuting as long as you wore the right clothes you were good to go. This winters been the first I've had to question the wisdom of biking it!

FINALLY, I got to ride, this week! We've had snow, and today was the first day that the roads were clear enough for me to ride. Still plenty of ice, and today was the first time the temps have been above freezing in a long time! I have to stay on the roads for the whole commute, though, because the cyclepath doesn't get cleared. I'm ready for SPRING! As it is, a day above 0C feels like a heatwave!

This has been a rather rough Winter for us, too. Last several haven't been too bad.

You're too far away from me Snapper, else you could have had some of my surplus. All week, I've been down a layer or two compared to in the last cold snap and been fine.

This morning, it was thick frost outside so I layered right back up. I worried a bit as I went to get the bike out as it didn't feel that cold but I put it down to just coming out of a warm house with all the layers on. Nope, was all hot by the time I got halfway up the hill. Still, on the long exposed downhill stretch 'twas a bit icy so I was going slow and probably needed the extra layers then.

Reckon I'm gonna be too hot on the way home though. Suppose I could just carry some of it ..
