The wife asked me to decorate

Last week she did ask and as she had asked a few years ago I decided to get on with it, first I took up the laminate flooring as it was getting marked and she wanted some oak down, some dark oak.

Then the walls were stripped ready for some filling and levelling for some new wallpaper.

Then we both decided on a new colour scheme which is black, deep red and an off white.

I think I did well, dont you think.

In all seriousness, are you going to be putting down oak flooring? we have just layed over 40 square meters of the stuff in new extension and its been a nightmare!!! it really should come with a heavy caution as it grows and moves like some form of alien!

You need to

a) let the new building dry out
b) once that is done put the unlaid flooring in the room it is for for a week or so.
c) decide not to bother and use laminate.

..and the OP has not finished the job! The bike has no pedals..

a) tick
b) tick
done all the things the instructions said, borrowed my nephew's (who's a plasterer) all singing and dancing damp meter to check walls and floor before laying the stuff it read ok! then left the 15mm gap all around like stipulated. Two weeks later took another 10mm off the floor and then a week after that had to take the plaster away from the wall because it was touching and starting to buckle like a volcano...had a few days away to come home and it had grew again. Personally I feel it needs to climatise for at least 6 months. I think its all to do with the amount of moisture in the air due to the wet summer we've had and dreading the winter when the heating goes on as I'm expecting it to shrink!

Laminate Uh! thats another story! caused condensation underneath, which inturn created celler fungus, which attracted wood boring weavils! (type of woodworm)

Wonder what colour those pedals are going to be?

Yes Rodgy, well sort of, its like half laminate with wood on top and lays just like a laminate.
Asterix you eagle eyed bugger, yep the pedals havent turned up yet, expecting them either today or tomorrow latest now as there was some confusion with my address.
And finally Rodgy again, the colour is going to be Black, infact some black 105s:biggrin:

The only thing sropping me getting on with the decor is time, I never seem to get any spare since I stripped the room out, but its going to be a chocolate brick pattern at the bottom with a cream stripe on top and the dado will change to an off white.

Don't forget to cross line with lining paper. It gives you a much better surface to wallpaper on and you will not get mucky marks on your joints with the paste bringing crap off the walls.

I've managed to put the decorating off till next year, but I have had the house rewired, had the electrician in whilst we were on holiday, and have been sorting out the garden, two rotten fences replaced, new gates out the back, two rotten sheds dismantled and skipped, we've filled two skips, just waiting for the new shed to arrive and a new front gate to be fitted.
