Unfortunately it happens far too often. Because of my medical connections I often get asked to help friends get sorted. One needed very major risky surgery and his consultant and team were very keen to do it

Doesn't surprise me in the least. The first question to ask in ANY situation like this is 'who does this benefit the most; the surgeon/surgical team or me, the recipient?' If it is that the surgeon and his team need the practice or to increase the numbers, tell them to go forth and multiply. I had two examples last week where people who should not have been operating were operating! They faffed about for two unnecessary hours before deciding they were incapable and opened the patient up anyway. The second one they decided the defect was too small to operate on after subjecting her to a risky angio procedure but this should have been discovered in clinic investigations. Still, they needed the numbers to put them in a better light when they attend clinical conferences!

its amazing how they get away with things like this .

it took the NHS 9 years to diagnose my partners illness , if found earlier what difference would it have made ?

Best wishes to the Mrs, hope all goes well with the op.

Can't help with the frame, but just wanted to say that there's a group in sheffield that promotes cycling for folks with disabilities. May be worth having a look, seeing if they can offer help with reintroducing the Mrs to cycling and if they have any suggestions for adaptations.

Awful stuff. I am so sorry to read about this and hope that things improve for her second time round- if you don't have much luck finding a frame a friend of mine gets old bikes in and fixes them up and sells them back on for cheap:

He advertises a lot on ebay- think he's due to put a shop feature onto his website but not yet- If you let him know should you contact him that Grace, Rosanne's friend put you in contact and PM me- I'll drop him a line. However, the one down side is he's based in London. Lot of bikes though.

Your poor wife. I hope she makes a good speedy recovery and can get back on her bike as soon as possible.

I must say, from the few people I know who have had knee surgery it seems a very hit and miss thing. I'm not sure any of them are actually much if any better off after the surgery than before.

Did the Raid Pyrenean with a guy who'd had both done. He appeared to be fine and said he was much better since he'd had the ops. it must depend on a lot of things, including who is the surgeon.

Best wishes from me, anyway.

That story is incredible but unfortunately things like this are more common than you'd care to think. My consultant does several medico-legal reports a year due to negligence and some of the mistakes made are so stupid. I had problems with my right knee this time last year and the first thing my GP did was offer me an x-ray at Chelsea & Westminster which then led to an ultrasound scan and steroid injection and I've been fine since. I'd have run for the hills, well, limped slowly, if surgery had been mentioned at the start.

I hope you get a decent outcome from the next lot of surgery and that your lawyer kicks massive a*se.

Sorry to hear Mrs DM has suffered like that. I hope she can make a full recovery. I know two people who have had replacement knee joints and it took them a while to get over the op and to eventually get back to full mobility. However now they are both 'back to normal' as it were.

If you are looking for a frame I have a nice alu/carbon frame which is gathering dust. To small for me. Weighs next to nothing. You can have it for a song as it's in the way and it really needs to be used.
