I've lost count of the stuff my son has lost or thought stolen, mobiles, iPods, Sony PSP to name but a few, only to find them 6 months later under a ramdon pile of crap in his room

I swear, you could hide a small family car in there!

I would have applied the Melon argument and then utilised the kittens....:

Voila - a new helmet

Everytime i leave my bike anywhere it takes me like 5-10 minutes to lock it up and strip all the accessories off :/

I know what you mean..

Every time I need to leave my bike somewhere for an extended time, 3 rear lights to come off, and 2 front ones if I've been riding in the dark (otherwise they're in my saddle bag), saddle bag off, cycle computer off, D lock through rear wheel and frame, cable lock through front wheel and frame, and a chain through the saddle rails and frame to lock the saddle up.

If I'm just popping in to the shops for a minute, and the area isn't too bad, then I'll just use a cable lock, and take the computer and saddle bag off.

Almost exactly same thing... Take off 2-3 rear lights, magicshine, battery pack, computer, mini pump, saddlebag and try to cable the wheels and d-lock the frame without getting wheel dirt allover my hands and face.

Ah well at least he owned up to it ... he could have kept quiet for the new helmet!

I reckon they get worse at secondary school and there seems to be less chance of an adult stepping in to reunite the lost belongings with the child. Last child about to move up to secondary school and I'm preparing myself for a long list of lost sweaters, lunch boxes etc based on the older siblings. One of whom was recently re-acquainted with their cash card after loosing it for 5 months in their room (good way to save in my opinion!)

I could try that, but I doubt I'd be able to get away with it.
Well some of it had to go to pay off various bits that they had borrowed in the meantime but there was none of the frivolous spending that there normally was! This week they temporarily lost their phone for a couple of hours so I don't think they have learnt their lesson!

I left my phone behind at a Hostel and it took me 2 days just to realise!
