Butterflies and Liver Birds was groundbreaking at the time in that it raised social questions and in turn questioned social standards

Was Britain really so retrograde in the in the late 70s????? I watched Butterflies with my solicitor mother (and engineer father). My friends' mothers who had stopped working to raise children were mostly picking up their careers again. The social standards being challenged in Butterflies seemed to be from 20 years ago (at the time).

Mind you, I never understood how Diana Spencer, with all the money and opportunities in the world, was only qualified to be a kindergarten helper.

I actually thought the family in 'Butterflies' were very modern, I'd never have been allowed to do things the 2 lads did at home, that's why I got my own place sharpish.
