...just the wrong clothes. Or so the saying goes. I'm determined to keep commuting through the winter so I've spent money and time kitting myself out (even bought a helmet and I swore I never would) and today I was paid back handsomely for my investment: Leaves, rain, wind, floods, rain, cold, dark, rain and rain and rain - me grinning from ear to ear and bone dry (well almost).

Oh and I'm now doing commute both ways - 10 miles each way. Dead chuffed and high on endorphins :biggrin::biggrin:

Spot on, and well done. I was in an office with a guy today who gets all togged up in lycra to ride out to the Park and Ride (about three miles, a distance I'd do in jeans), and he was going on about hoping it didn't rain - he had a coat and all that, but seemed unduly fed up about the prospect of a possible 15 minute ride in the wet. Especially as he apparently then changes back into normal gear to drive home...

I'm about to start a job working outdoors 4 days a week, so I'm going to invest in some quick drying trousers, I have over trousers, and I have access to good waterproof coats, so I'm sorted. The ride in and home will be the easy bit!

I know what you mean I also have folder and on my 'rest' days I use it at either end of my train journey and I don't bother with cycling gear - I just wear my regular clothes. When I made the leap to the full ten mile commute I thought 'if I'm doing this I'm doing it properly'. I think I've been able to maintain my enjoyment of what could otherwise by an onerous journey in the winter by making that decision. The fact is I'm loving my commutes more than I ever thought I would and I feel better in myself too.

Good luck with that job - I'd love to be outdoors more...

Maybe I'm going to fast but if I have clothes which keep water out I end up getting soaked in sweat & overheating. That said I've sorted out my cycling wardrobe so I'm warm enough & comfortable when wet so I don't give a monkeys about getting soaked.

ditto

I've got a Night Vission top but it only comes out when it's very cold indeed

So what helmet did you manage to find that keeps you so dry Bicyclebelle?
Wouldn't be this one perchance?

Not sure how safe...but same could be said of any bike helmet I guess.

LOL, I wonder if you get too much condensation on the inside so you'd not be able to see anything any way............

Erm no... Although I must say that helmets in general look only marginally less stupid IMO. I hate the damn thing and I'm not convinced of their efficacy and I've been riding regularly for the past 18mths without one. But call it what you, will this week I just felt vulnerable and decided to get one - must be getting old. And no it didn't keep my head dry hence the 'well almost' comment.

PS This is not intended as an opener for a helmet debate just my rambling thoughts

I reckon really safe... if you were a car driver and you saw that, wouldn't you give the wierdo a very wide berth:biggrin:. I'm off to see where I can buy one locally.
