I've just found this really cool room 'stat on the web: http://www.nest.com/

What I really like about it is that it tells you how long it expects to take to achieve the temperature you've set, which should prevent Mrs Gti from whacking the 'stat up to 25 in the hope that the boiler will warm the house up faster. :cursing:

We have ours set to 19 because the hall is cool and that brings the bedrooms, bathroom and lounge up to a comfortable 21. However I know that the minute I catch that taxi to go on a two week overseas trip, that thermostat gets turned up to 21 in the hall. On a normal evening the TRV on the lounge rad is on FULL when the woodburner is blasting out heat, she's sitting shivering and I'm sweating and stripping to my vest and pants. Last year our lounge got so hot that it woke up the dormant larva of an Asian Longhorn beetle in the Chinese-made sofa, which started munching away at the woodwork and sounding like a demented dog chewing a bone. I ended up dismantling half the frame just to extract the larva, which I sent off for identification.

NT and I feel the cold differently - he tends to feel comfortable when I'm wrapped up in layers under a blanket on the sofa. On the other hand, he feels windchill worse than I do, and suffers more in my unheated bathroom - I guess I'm just used to it.

At his, he controls the heating, and I layer up. At mine, the heating is minimal, so we both layer up!

You are allowed to touch the thermostat, you know. Only touch it, mind, not adjust it.

We fortunately leave the heating on about 19 - works out OK - I do sleep without bed covers though.

A work mate told me about his missus - she'd insist on it being on 25c and she still didn't take the hint when he was walking around in shorts and a t-shirt in Winter.

My in-law's house is so hot, I can hardly stand it, as my MIL isn't mobile and feels the cold, but OMG, you are hit with a heat blast walking in.

My thermostat is set to about 15ish. The timer sets it to come on 7-8 in the morning and then from 6-11 in the evening.
I'm happy with that.

all 3 stats set at 18 degrees . TRVs in the loft set to lowest setting, and overnight stat auto changes to 14 degrees at 22.00. Heating is still not on auto and has only been on for an hour since 1st December and that was to just finish drying my cycle kit.
last year it went on auto on 21st December and year before on 14th December. trying to get past Christmas this year.

I'm pretty lucky in that I live in a house with very low air leakage, which means there are pretty much no draughts, so low heating bills.

I've trained the other half to layer up too.
