I can home tonight to a house like a sauna. Mrs Beebo has decided that today was the 1st day for the central heating to go on.

The thermostat was at 22! I turned it down straight away to 17. We now have 6 months of daily thermostat war until April next year.

Does everyone else have the same battle?

Yep. I've just about convinced my wife that 18 is an acceptable temperature, but when I'm not in the house it will strangely creep up to 20 or 21... must have a ghost or gremlins or something...

During summer I will be sweating buckets over night and be getting up at 4am as I am too hot to sleep. First thing she'll say is that she wants the winter duvet back as she's too cold. We really aren't the same species!

Nope, it's nowhere near cold enough for the heating here yet. We might have a small coal fire at the weekend but CH doesn't go on until the first frosts - and then it stays at 18. This house is so draughty that even if it's on at 25 there's hardly any impact, no wondering round in t-shirts and skimpies for me!

Oh aye.. won't turn it on till end of October, all being well. I make it 17 or 18 tops, which somehow makes it up to 20+ when I'm not in.

That said, sometimes when it's really cold our cat sneaks it up to 20 when Chuffy isn't looking

Another vote for living on my own. I also have the great advantage of living over a pub, so their fire heats my flat, and if it's cold, then I've got a perfect excuse for a pint

Oh yes, all this is familiar.

We have a gas Aga so the kitchen is sweltering, especially when the sun shines full on through the bifold doors, which face west. She might just agree to turn it off for a few weeks during the hottest part of the year.

We have woodburners in the front and back rooms, the one in the back room gets fired up most nights until it is giving out a good 7 kw, the room gets up to well over 30C and she's still shivering and moaning when I open the door because I'm sweating. Oh and the TVR on the lounge rad is turned up full instead of being allowed to do its job. I suppose I could slip a penny coin inside the cap.....

I go away for two week trips and I know that the minute I'm out the 'stat in the hall goes from 19, at which setting the rooms are at a comfy 21, to 21, at which temp the boiler labours like Hercules and the rooms get up to about 23 degrees C.

I come home from work to find the CH running but all the bedroom windows open. Drives me feckin' mad, it does.
