Getting old but not past it

What a relief!! I thought I was the only one turning it down according to my wife. I am accused of being tight and mean. I too believe that 18 is fine. Thanks guys, we are all on the same side@

Oh and the TVR on the lounge rad is turned up full instead of being allowed to do its job.
Blimey, I know they used to be made in Lancs but getting one on the radiator is a heck of a feat of engineering.

Although I guess it could just have been a typo, I'm loving the image I've got of the pair of you fighting over the location of a Tuscan sitting on the lounge radiator.

The solution is to fit an identical dummy thermostat.
Top tip from a friend whose dad was a plumber and had this set up at home

I have a temp reading of 12 degrees c in the house at the moment. I refuse to put the heating on because we are having an extension built and due to this all the stone has been removed off one of the walls. This has left the cavity open so any heat i put in the house will soon disappear. Also i am a tight northener.

Last night the missis came to bed in a fleece  .

I can't stand over-heated buildings, and in my opinion, most people do over-heat their premises.

I don't have a thermometer but it is supposed to be about 10-11 °C here today. I have my windows open but it is probably still a degree or two warmer in this room than outside. I'd guess it is about 12-13 °C here at my computer. I am wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt but I haven't bothered putting my big woolly jumper on yet. That will go on later once the sun has set and the temperature drops.

I hope to last another week or two before using any heating. Even when I do heat the house, it is only with one gas fire and one small gas wall heater. I doubt whether those 2 rooms normally get above 16-17 °C at any time between September and April, and the rest of the house is unheated. (Heat from cooking takes the chill off the kitchen. At other times, I only pop in there to make a cup of tea.)

My boiler completely packed up last winter and I can't afford to buy a new one so I was washing in cold water in an unheated bathroom when it was -12 °C. In the end, the pipes gave way to the cold before I did - they froze solid and cracked while I was away at Christmas. Fortunately, they didn't thaw until I got back!

Cold is bracing! ;)

We have had the background heating on since the four day heat wave ended. The living room is around 22 or 23C and I love it.

If I try and sit and read in temperatures of under 20C I start to seize up and cramp. When winter hits the background Night Storage heaters will be added to with the coal fired central heating.

Love the dummy thermostat idea, but I guess you have to do that before you've been living in the house for a few years!

Today was our first day for the heating on, which I didn't mind, but the missus always puts it up to 25, sitting under a blanket on the sofa whilst I'm falling asleep from the heat!

Luckily she's not so good at working the timer ^^

Our thermostat wars started in August

I am constantly turning it down to 21 or 22c, if it was left then it would be creeping up towards 25c permamently.
