My thermostat stays at 20/21 - any colder and the 2 of my children cough and splutter horrendously all night............the other child splutters horrendously if the heating takes it to more than 21/22........

it's like walking on egg shells with my children and the heating.........

Sex change? ;)

No, I cant see myself looking feminine, even with the full op. I had angioplasty and stenting done, I'm told starting to feel the cold is is common after this op.

We are quite lucky in our household. Both myself and Mrs Ian seem to have the same temps. The thermostat usually stays at 18degs throughout the winter unless it's really bleedin' cold, then it might go up to 20

My wife and daughter definitely feel the cold more than I do.

We've had a new condensing boiler this year so autumn and winter will be its first test. This is on top of having cavity wall insulation and topping up the loft insulation last year. We've also - completely coincidentally - had smart meters fitted so we are able to monitor energy usage quite closely.

The other morning, the heating kicked in for the first time and ran for only about 15 mins at 5.30am because the control sensor in the coldest room (the north facing room off the kitchen) needed to get that room back to 18C. I'd have to say when I heard it start up - I was already awake and about to get up - I was surprised because when I went across the landing to the bathroom, I didn't feel the house was what I'd call 'cold' at that point.

I'd be happy to tell the heating to come on at that time of the morning when the back room reached 17C or even 16C, but I think they'd be for turning it up to 19 or 20!

Our thermostat never goes above 18, but when it's -25 outside, even that feels pretty hot when I come in from cycling home. We have very good insulation and the whole place is usually heated by one big pellet stove (assisted by a fan which moves the heat through the house), although we do have an oil heater in the bedroom and the bathroom for when it gets really cold. There are people here who have their thermostats up well into the twenties; funnily enough, they are also the people spending $400-500 a month on electricity in winter and complaining about their bills...

I not sure why, but in the last few years my better half has not really had a problem with the cold in the house, in the winter the heating goes on for about 30mins in the morning and for a couple of hours in the evening when it's very cold, (she may be motivated by the cost of LPG), although I do have to warm up her side of the bed before she gets in. We have to remember when anyone comes to stay to keep the heating on a bit longer and turn up the thermastats a wee bit, shvering friends is not always the best things to have in your front room.

honeywell thermostats are great as they have little wire sprigs inside that can be moved to set the limits , upper and lower, we had a range from 15 degrees to 19 degrees.

new thermostats are digital electronic so will get set up with a temperature probe and then locked out with a passcode when i finish the decorating.
that said we didn't put the heating on auto until 12th December last year, just pinging it on for an hour in the evening when we got home. pointless heating an empty house. the morning chill at 04.30 was the spur for me to stick it on auto.

got switched off again in late feb when the building work started on the ground floor.

it does make me chuickle when people whack the stat up full saying the house will get hotter- no it won't it will only ghet hotter if you get the boiler to heat the water hotter by turning up the boiler stat. ours is currently set to 1 out of a possible 5 for hot water and heating on the combi. all that turning up the stat does is get the boiler banging away trying to get up to a temperature thats unattainable.

anyway get yourselves a roller trainer and you won't need to put the heating on , cycling for a few hours in the veneing will get you warm
