Yes, after a couple months of winter commuting, the number of cyclists is on the up. There was one day at college where out of approx 80 cyclists in normally, mine was the only bike on the bike stand. What a group of sissies!!!

Didn't use the car once, admittedly 'cos I don't own, or want a car...

Me too.

I'm seeing a few more on my commute. During the worst of it in Dec & Jan, I sometimes wouldn't see another cyclist until I got to work and there'd be the odd diehard in the locker room.

Now I see a good half dozen daily each way and some of them are ladies. It's a good thing, because the more yellow jerseys on the road, the more it makes motorists think about cyclists.

It's odd - all but one commuters that I've seen so far have been ladies - is it just me or are the they sprouting up everywhere??.. I was sitting at the back of chimistry for a change, and only just noticed that guy:girl ratio is 1:4..... Odd..

It's probably 'want to lose weight so I can get into my holiday bikini' time. In the ten years that I went to a gym, I used to see a surge in women gymgoers in late Feb & March, wanting to get in shape for the summer holiday.

I'm not complaining though. Nothing like chasing a sweet derriere and then saying a hello as you pedal past. Just don't want to be seen being overtaken by one.

Touch wood, In the three years I've been commuting, I've never been overtaken by one...

I've contemplated overtaking a roadie on my slicked mountain bike, but if someone did that to me, I'd have a major ego spaz...

I've overtook a roadie once on my hybrid, but to be fair, judging by his riding, he was only just starting so was a bit cold. I'd been riding for over half an hour and the legs had momentum.

I don't think he was bothered.

Our bike racks are starting to fill up a bit now, about 25 in the summer months,2 or 3 in the worst of the weather(I wasn't one of them) now around 10-12 again.
Will be nice to finally ditch the jacket soon, have started to pre-stretch the gilet in readiness-fits a bit snugger than I remember:blush:

The bike racks at my uni were empty'ish (compared to normal anyway, there was 1/2 a dozen spare racks when normally there's only one or two). Maybe folk were put off by the snow yesterday and expected more of the same. Today was just very wet. I think summer was last week

I am one of those that stopped commuting over the winter. Lots of excuses which I wont bore you with.

Did my first ride in this morning, started snowing on the high bits! Looking forward to the 13 miles home tho. Decided to treat myself to an early dart as a reward ;)

Roll on the better weather and an improvement in fitness.

Beginning to see more bikes in all sorts of places like shops, the leisure centre, the town centre, and so on, but still a long way to go to reach last year's maximum.

Well we do still have another three weeks to go before we're out of winter, and another month till DST. That's when we'll see the biggest change.
