I think you're being rather optimistic, thinking that anyone stops to think "Oh, I won't litter, because there's no party from McDs to clear up".

Louts litter, decent folk don't, I don't think the presence of a litter picking team matters much.

I'm not that sure... I think there are folk who would think otherwise but given the opportunity to let someone else do it are more than happy to let someone else clear up after them.

But then, I've worked in IT. I'm quite used to otherwise highly capable people suddenly turning into ninnyhammers given the opportunity to shirk responsibility. Oh your computer is not working? Let me talk you through checking that its actually plugged in.

Happens more often than you'd think and I suspect its a human trait to let people specialise in what they are perceived as specialising in. Hunting, Cooking, Raising the family, IT, Clearing litter...

When I was at college I had a Saturday job in McDonalds and one of the roles, certainly during the day, was litter patrol. I remember being regulalry stopped by people to tell me what a fine service I was performing, generally older people. This was 28 years ago so I have no idea if this is still done as a standard part of the 'job rotation'.

*cough* last time you did a proper day's work...
