I put 4 fatballs out yesterday in regular bird feeders and by today the squirrels had taken the lot. I assumed that the nuts in the 'squirrel proof feeder - ha ha!' would provide some sustenance for the birdies but the squirrel found a way round that too. The siver sheath slides down to cover the food under light pressure but he quickly learnt that and leapt directly onto the nuts as in the picture.

The birds will just have to starve.

Our resident squirrel shakes the "squirrel proof" feeder and eats the stuff that falls out onto the ground..... nearly got caught by a cat the other day though as he was so engrossed in eating the seeds he had pinched:biggrin:

rich p... don't know if you've noticed, but that statue in your garden has lost an arm!;)

Bloody hell, you're right. It cost me an arm and a leg too!

The sodding squirrel may have eaten it!

There's a baffle you can get to fit around the top - stops 'em climbing down the wire. Although it won't stop them jumping straight onto it. Could you run 12v through it?

We had five squirrels (including one 'youth') two ducks and a moor hen vying for our attention whilst at Center Parcs this weekend. We loaded up several slices of brown nutty bread with some out of date peanut butter, cut it into small squares and placed it outside our villa. They were like teenagers on speed for the rest of the day.
