Mr Summerdays has just phoned to say he will be late as he went to cycle home, only to discover that someone has been and stolen his brake calipers, levers and tried to steal the derailieur:ohmy::angry:. This is on work premises - not secure though and presumably took more than a few minutes). Its only Avid Juicy 3 brakes - not anything really fancy.

Luckily a work collegue is going to give him a lift home. But then this weekend is obviously going to be spent trying to patch up the bike ... and then run the risk that they come back again for second helpings.

;). Sounds daft but why not wheel it down the road and park it somewhere else to make second helpings a bit less likely?

I don't know about bike bits, but........

Second burglaries are not uncommon as the thieves know you will buy nice spanking new stuff on the insurance, and come back for it!

Presumably the lock is still intact.

I think Marin meant, when it's fixed, park it elsewhere for a while so they can't find it again in the same place.

Ah yes see what you mean ... but its in a staff car park ... I think he will try to use it as a reason to provide better cycle parking.

Not just thieves then, but thick.

Unless it was someone who needed some very specific parts...

Anyway, here's hoping they fit the stuff badly and wipe out on their first fast corner.

If someone tampers with your brakes it makes me wonder if it is actually sabotage? How many people leap on the bike and just ride. I often do, it could go horribly wrong

Glad your fella had the good sense to check and hasnt been off'd in the process!

Apparently he only realised when he was trying to attatch his computer and the bit that remains on the bike was in the wrong position, grabbed the bike to move it and realised the grip was missing. Then he lifted the bike a little and the back wheel fell off.... it sounds like it would of been funny watching him realise all the bits that were gone. They also nicked a light from someone else's bike.

Maybe they didn't have any good tools as they didn't touch the cables through the wheels or the D-lock.

A cheapskate thieving scum CYCLIST stole the bits. Perhaps an unscrupulous cyclist that has a shopping list but doesn't want to buy on-line or at bike shops. I doubt a straight scrote bike thief would risk spending that mount of time dismantling the bike. They would just chop the lock with bolt croppers and take the whole bike not treat the bike racks as a pick and mix !

I agree, 100%.

That's the thing, a bike thief is just stealing bikes indiscriminately. But this guy/or girl know's exactly the value of the parts he's stealing and is happy to pass the cost onto another cyclist. That's the really sad bit it's another cyclist.;)
