Ah! One for the Useless thread! I shall resurrect it.

In the words of HMHB,

Spoiling Good Friday my ex-love sent to me
Twelve drummers singing
Eleven chairmen dancing
Ten mascots whinging
Nine stewards flapping
Eight christening invites
Seven cows a-barking
Six vicars strumming
Nick ****ing Knowles
Four boring words
Carphone Warehouse and Matalan
And a pulled up at Bangor-on-Dee

People overtaking me on the inside when I'm hogging the middle lane

This is legal and perfectly acceptable in the States - makes the middle lane hogs snap out of their coma-like driving as they need to keep an eye out all the time.

My pet hate? The 70mph limit. A throwback to the time when a motorway really was a 'carriageway'. With horses on steroids etc.

I have to confess to undertaking as well (yes I know its naughty). I get very very bored with people who line up in the middle lane joining everyone else in overtaking nothing. Coming back up the M5 last night I upset a middle lane hogging Merc by undertaking him, lots of flashing lights and arms up in the air, fairly amusing. Most of the middle lane hoggers are that glazed over they don't seem to notice.

M5 is a bit tedious with road works at the moment. Amusing how many people haven't grasped that braking when you approach an average speed camera won't work....

Apparently, [undertaking] is also legal in the UK where safe to do so. I have been told this more than once. Is it true or not?

On dual carriageways yes, on motorways, no. (I think)...
I would be quite surprised if the law on this was different for different kinds of road. If you know which Act it should be I will see if I've got the text in Hughes

I've always followed the HC advice that overtaking on the left is permissible if traffic is moving in queues and the queue on your right is moving slower than you are. *Changing* lanes to undertake is another matter though

[ edit: aha, someone on a car forum talking sense. Suppose it had to happen eventually ]

People who bust a gut to overtake you, then pull in front of you and slow down to slower than you were going before they overtook you. Then if you overtake them, sure as eggs is eggs they'll do it again. (Some people just have to overtake an estate car. They just can't help themselves.)

You're in the inside lane approaching a sliproad onto the motorway. Several cars are accelerating down the sliproad to join your lane. To make it easier, you indicate to move right and give them space. Idiot in the middle lane sees what you're doing. He's slightly behind but not enough for you to safely pull in front of him? But does he slow down? No, he's either oblivious to the road in front of him, or there's no way he's going to let off the gas ever so slightly, to make enough space for you to pull out.

It takes cooperation to make these roads work.

Bad driving on your part there I'm afraid.

I hate it when you go to overtake someone who's in the middle lane, when you get up along side them they speed up so you have to pull back in behind them, so annoying....
Also people who undertake just to gain 20 meters (just to catch up the car in front) which in not only dangerous but pointless as well...
