:cold:Fountains Abbey is great - would be good on cold crisp winter day, there's also Rievaulx Abbey (amongst numerous others) or Eden Camp (WWII POW camp) at Malton.

Ooo, yeah, good calls! I guess that they'd have little experience of anything like the Roman and Viking stuff in York and both Rievaulx and Fountains Abbeys are stunning, as James suggests, on a bright winter's day.

a guided walk round manchester (yes really) the social and industrial history ones can be very interesting

a boat trip on the ship canal
