ThinK I will give this cycle lane a miss

On my way to Manchester today and came across this cycle lane, took me all of 1/2 a second to make my mind up not to use it, could be a accident waiting to happen.

I spoke to a Highway engineer about one locally that needed a good clean. Apparently it was not possible as it was too narrow for the cleaner to get down it.

What is going on there?

I can't figure out what the 2 paths next to the cycle path are suppose to be. I assume one is for pedestrians, but what is the big one covered in leaves?

On the left is the pavement, the one covered in leaves is the cycle lane, and the one on the right is a (I think) lane divider, to stop cars going into the cycle lane.

Oh - it looks like the sign is indicating that the left one is the cycle lane!

Whichever, it does look a bit iffy ...

Have seen tiny pavement sweepers, presumably the local council does not have one. The leaf fall might explain why I saw someone today struggling uphill on a busy A road, the road having a crawler lane, instead of using the adjacent cycle track. There does seem to be a reluctance by many cyclists to use cycle tracks/lanes, the one that really bemuses me is the lady cyclist who opts to try to turn right in the evening peak off an A road when there is a cycle track advoiding the junction.

In all honesty, the cycle lane looks fine... better than find. They've out Dutched the Dutch! It's nice & wide, more than enough room for two way traffic as well... I pity the pedestrians for having to deal with the sunken section in the middle of the pavement filled with leaves, then a nice kerbed reservation to the road on the far right!
