MTB is'nt that the sport which involves ducking under wires pissed off local idiots put up to maim cyclists... Really so much safer, everything has a degree of risk imhoimho

Sounds like a crisis of confidence mate. Nothing unusual about that. Most of the time I feel safe on the roads, but I go through the occasional period where it all feels a little too dangerous. Glad you had a good 40 miler to get you back into the swing of things.

I think people get too concerned with danger, things happen, you just have to determine if your life is going to be defined by fear.
