Ive lost about 2 stone since christmas (down to 13 exactly now) by doing the 5:2 diet. I still cycle regularly 30-40 miles at a time. I wanted to loose the weight to help me up the hills and it has certainly done that.

I still have a belly and would like to loose probably another stone and tone up. I find that when on the bike climbing out the saddle the muscles in my arms start to hurt.

So, I'm thinking of joining the gym. £20 a month (no swimming pool). I intend to do the following
1. regular spin classes as I've heard these help with the bike
2. running to help with the weight loss
3. small weights to help build a little muscle in my arms...

Anyone here joined a gym and actually still use it regularly??

Walking for the belly.
Pilates for toning and strength.

1. cycling will help with the bike
2. diet to help with weight loss
3. In order to stress the muscles you use on a bike - riding a bike will be the best solution

Working on your core will help with toning your stomach and the strength you need for riding out of the saddle, you might want to examine your technique too. You may have noticed with the weight you have lost already that it doesn't just fall off your belly but shoulders and chest too so some gym work could help bearing in mind that it is not possible to spot reduce. There is a big lobby on this forum that believes you only need to ride your bike to eliminate any problems connected with riding your bike I don't think this is correct and your view (with some minor alterations) is more intelligent.

I generally use the gym 2-3 times a week before work, and been going for years now.
I just tend to do weights though, I don't use it to try to improve my riding in any way and I get bored very quickly with the cardio machines.

Riding out of the saddle will work the core as much as is required for riding out of the saddle

People have said that?

So is Kung Fu. Why do people never recommend that?
