I love Eurovision, shows the new Europe's true politics!
Think you're right about the badness of some of the serious entries...when that seriousness becomes lost, the naievity goes, it'll all be over...un less we let-in some new countries of course...

Albania 12 points
Gaza Strip 10 points
Chad 8 pints
Tristan da Cuna 6 points
North Korea 4 points
Cuba 2 points
England....nil points

Yes, the lyrics to Ireland's entry are funny. Methinks they know they're exracting the liquid bodily waste

Ours, on the other hand, is a good soul song, cross between Sydney Youngblood's "If Only I could" and Madge's "Express Yourself" sung by someone who can sing. That, combined with the fact that Europe hates us, means it hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of winning!

We're doomed...
Ours is I agree well sung and performed but is a real dirge, if you can't hum it 5 mins after hearing it it's no good for Eurovision.
Michelle Gayle should have one it...catchy, stupid, hummable...just can' figure the voting public...they have no brain.
The only other viable alternative was the Eastern European Cyndi-lauper alike with the magnificent thighs...at least there was a story there.
Feel desperately sorry for the winner, think he's a nice guy with talent, but humiliation's heading his way.

Basically the whole thing is an expensive nightmare for any country that wins and I suspect the Irish are well aware of this!

Thing is with all the political voting they might just win as they will be seen as a safe "blocking" vote to prevent another country gaining points.

What does Terry Wogan say about this?

It's an expensive nightmare for us as we Brits actually partially fund the thing every year no matter what country it's in. This is why we have a guaranteed place in the final - even though the rest of Europe hates us

Well, usually, by the end, he's senseless with giggles, and that's half the fun! I suspect the BBC TV box on the night has a liberally stocked drinks cupboard.

I'd love to see the turkey win - the Irish have tried to lose before, to little avail. I think there should be more wierd and wonderful acts, they are the fun bit - that Finnish Deathmetal group, and the same year I think, the Albanian entry was four blokes in suits and trilbies who chanted "we are the winners, of Eurovision, Vote for the winners, of Eurovision..." Classic. And I think they came about 5th?

i think the public chose the wrong person to represent the Royaume Unis.

they had a choice of either 60's shimmy or czech pornstar lookalike, both very eurovision and chose neither.

idiots.

That's the trouble. The British choose a song they like, they never think about whether it's a "Eurovision" song. I think this translates to the rest of Europe as taking it too seriously, and a bit dull.
