Maybe the policy makers have a ride around Dutch and Danish Cities to see how its done. I feel it will take some time to ween us off the motor vehicle.

He only travelled a couple of miles, but the netherlands transport is always going to be more superior to ours. Our government haven't got a clue about transport, they would rather give people money to go and buy a new car (scrappage scheme), then build a better public transport system that works.

7:08 am,,, That's late.

The video reminds me of riding to Birmingham International rail station past the rack of six bikes. The other cyclists and I took our bikes ON the train (London Midland, Free for bikes.)

Off at Coventry with a gaggle of cyclists who boarded at the country stops. The bike racks at Coventry were more populated, with a couple of dozen bikes.

I boarded the train at 06:03 for an 06:05 departure.

Yes, we are lacking in this country. I went to Frankfurt and its far more cycle-friendly than Coventry. I've been to San Fran and Silicon Valley where there are special carriages on the train for bike storage.

In what way? Invest in a Brommie, ride to the station, fold it, get the train, unfold and away you go to work. Could easily commute 31 miles in an hour if you timed it correctly.

Ah, you've not been to Holland then.

Among the many other things, what I notice when I cycle there is the rarity of cycle helmets.

I really enjoyed cycling there.... they truly do cater more for bikes than the UK or US.

A bit OT: I noticed when the train stopped, people waited for people to exit the train first -oh the novelty and the civility!

That because the canny Dutch know that cycle helmets are a waste of money...

and the Dutch don't like to waste money...
