Is that the island mentality in us??? Whatever, no excuses.
We have a long long way to go to match our north european friends.
One of the many cycling things that amazed me in Holland, the amount of bikes just left and not vandalised.

A bit OT: I noticed when the train stopped, people waited for people to exit the train first -oh the novelty and the civility!

As Uncle M says, the footage is rather atypical. I find that unless you leap off immediately, you'll be faced having to press past those squeezing on - far worse than anything I experienced commuting in London. Also, the Dutch have no "lane discipline" when it comes to escalators (again a bit of surprise if you're used to London ways).

just got back from that wonderful country, the infastruscure is fantastic, as well as the mindset of the people. we did 250 miles cycling then return by train. its amazing to cycle in such a beautiful country where bikes feel like the primary and most respected road user.

Everyone cycles so slow in amsterdam cant speak for the rest of the country but if that is what everybody cycling brings then no thanks. It may be more dangerous cycling over here but its more fun.

I've just booked a week in Holland for next month .. we'l be staying in a place called Wassenaar and although its not a cycling holiday we'l definately be hiring some bikes and having a days cycling
