That's ok if you are young ( 35 is still young) but your view of life changes as you get older. You begin to wonder what will happen if your health deteriorates and want to be close to facilities. So I admire people who can do that sort of thing, but is is not for me. I like my comfort and civilisation even if it is costly.

"What a week it's been! After recording a 75 track concept album consisting of 1920's string band music/screamo/grindcore/experimental sound art, I got to finish off the weekend with tons of sweet singletrack. Now it's off to mammoth this week. Anyone gonna be there? Let's shred!"

Colour me one part jealous, one part not another bloody hipster and his beard.

Me too. Where do you think he gets his drugs? Or is it the mushroom you see in one of the pictures?

My first proper Saturday job was working in a health food shop. Talking to my manager one day, I discovered she worked through the winter months, but spent the entire summer, every summer, hanging out down at the Serpentine in Hyde Park, swimming, sunbathing, reading books, playing guitar. Then come autumn, she'd find another job. You could do that kind of thing back in the '70s. *sigh*

To each their own. I do think we probably over complicate our lives, so good for him, and it certainly sounds like he is enjoying himself. There are definitely advantages....

But while there are definitely advantages, I can't say it is for me. I'm hoping I live to get older(!) and I do wonder what happens when he gets a bit older.... I also wonder how he pays for his healthcare year round -which I'm sure he'll need at some point or another, and of course healthcare is very expensive over here. I think this kind of lifestyle would obviously make having a family a bit precarious as well, though of course not everyone wants that. I'd also love to know if he is truly self supportive and expects to continue to be.

I think it would be pretty interesting to follow him as he gets older to see if his attitudes or decisions change.

It sounds great, but I think it would be a pretty lonely existence. Personally I like tours up to around 3 weeks. Much beyond that and I miss my family and home comforts!
