Okay I'm sorry to admit that fascinated me! I used to take people for that scan when I was a Hospital porter for the radiology department. It's a barium scan, you swallow a porridge like meal with a dye in it that shows up on the X-ray so they can see the swallowing process 
pretty cool stuff I've seen CT scans too! They're just as cool but instead its a dye in the blood vessels
