It resonates with me as I frequently marvel at the willingness of folk to part with pounds for something that costs pence.

When (when... is not very often at all) I go into Costa I marvel that 3 bits of biscuit/cake 1 coffee and 2 hot chocolates (mrs V and Little-un have expensive tastes) can cost as much as a bar meal and drinks for all 3 of us at a wetherspoons pub.....

Waitrose have a free 'proper' coffee machine... I gave in and got a card to then get a free coffee a day if I'm passing but never shop there. It can't last, they must be spending a lot on roast coffee beans and milk.

It's the same machine that a local cyclist frequented cafe uses and they charge £2.50 for the same thing... no brainer. Wonder how long it will take the retired cyclists, who meet up mid-week, to find out.

I've had a Waitrose card for ages but never used it for the free hot drink as my nearest one is Canary Wharf and I just cannot be bothered to go out of my way for it. It's a great scheme in theory though and I'd take them up on it if the opened one in Woolwich/Plumstead

A bakery in Bristol has now started selling fresh coffee. So that means saturday mornings stuck waiting behind the world and his wife/extended family as they all order coffees/teas etc, and of course, there's only one harassed staff member on the till. Why is it that the people with the most ultra-complex orders are always in front of you?

Oh man ! My dad had a shelf in his garage that must have had a dozen or more of those Nescafe jars full of already used screws and nails and stuff. He even had the lids screwed to the underside of the shelf as well so that you could unscrew the jar from the lid for increased storage space.

Sorry ...... as you were.

Hebden Bridge is a small town, but it is a bit of a tourist hotspot for NW England. As a result, numerous cafes have opened to cater for the visitors. I sat down one evening and tried to work out how many cafes there are but had to admit defeat when I got to 25. I knew that there were others, but couldn't remember them. Since then, at least another 3 or 4 have opened. It's bonkers! (Well, I suppose it isn't if they all make a decent profit, but I can't imagine that they do.)

I've never understood the 'pull' of Hebden Bridge. My only visits are for Chris Crossland's audaxes and gigs at the Trades Club.

What can you possibly mean, Vernon?

In 2005, Hebden Bridge was named the funkiest place to live in Europe by British Airways’ in-flight magazine, “High Life”.
I rest my case!

I wouldn't if I were you. British Airways might lose it.
