Last time I cycled to Eastbourne from Hastings they seemed curiously keen to keep cyclists away from the damn seafront - wanted me to ride on major roads. Can't remember what fines they were threatening but I do remember that the place seemed far from welcoming.
(the spoons was though where I sat out the time to my train - let me walk/carry the bike through the pub)

So, tricycles with V8 engines, gatling guns and swords protruding from the hubs are fine, but a vicar venturing forth at 1mph on a rod braked upright will be pistol whipped and relieved of £500?
