First time I tried it when it used to be in bigger bottles, I had 2 which were necked as though it was a session beer - wipe out...

Fast and careful!
I like his beer, I've got a 2005 case of this, minus a couple of samples taken for ongoing quality inspections, it says best after 10 years, so next year's the year!

this stuff was reputed to be the strongest ale in the uk years ago,what is it about 12%,i opened a few once as my god father worked the brewery,thick and sweet

The only author more depressing than Hardy is Camus (la Peste anyone?) what I learned from reading Thomas Hardy was - beware the uppity woman and the oily landowner - you won't never get to screw one but will definitely be screwed by the other.

I would have said Joseph Conrad was more depressing than Hardy, possibly John Steinbeck too.
