Running 6-speed chain on 9-speed chainset & mech right now so noise aplenty ^_^

(soon to be rectified)

How did you end up with 6 speed like that?

Oh and my laces are tied off at the base of the shoe. Rode the thing into work, cant place it even now the chain is spotless. Might drop it by the LBS and get them to sort it.

The Streetfinder has a 6-speed screw on freewheel, upgraded chainset & mechs, only temporary whilst I pick up some 9-speed flat bar shifters and a rear cassette wheel to stick my old 9sp cassette and chain on (or a 7sp screw on freewheel and my old 7sp rapidfires which Sheldon reckons will be compatible enough with a 9sp chain to work with the front mech)

I'm betting it's the crank nuts. Failing that maybe pedal thread. If not that I'd start looking for cracks in the BB area of the frame . . . Good luck!

One thing you might try -and trust me it could be this -is your headset. When they are loose they can make a tic-tic noise (especially with alu frames) that will sound surprizingly like they are emanating from the bottom bracket. The whole issue with syncing with the pedal stroke can really throw you off, but in fact it's as the weight shifts from one side of the bike to the other, the headset is put under pressure, causing the sound.

Mind you, not saying it's that, but if you continue to have noises it's worth checking. A badly adjusted or worn headset has fooled many cyclists before!

I had a little scraping sound that was ruining my day out and also scaring off the sheep I was hoping to get closer too. Turned out to be the excess cable off the rear brake that had slipped off the v brake post and was brushing against my rim. By the time I,d discovered and sorted it, the sheep had retreated to a safe distance. I cant stress how important it is that your bike needs a good checkover prior to stealth missions.

Forgot my favourite: one time I got a definite ticking noise when I was in the highest gear; spent quite some time checking the front derailleur, whether or not the chain was hitting the chainstay, etc.

Turned out it was the cable on the downtube hitting the downtube as it was too slack, causing a distinct ping noise. Aaahhh, so that's what those little rubber donuts are for!
