Well that's me been cycle commuting in Chelmsford for two weeks, not long enough to make a substantive opinion, but on the whole I think its a good place to commute. More drivers than up north (home) seem to be aware and actively look out for cyclists and are more patient; you do get the odd wvm, muppet, et al. but it seems to be a very small minority. You have to be more aware however, of the other commuters; as I was about to pull off tonight a rlj went across my path and at the next set of red lights a bike 1/4 wheel overtook me only to immediately drift in without looking when the lights went green. Ignoring these individuals on the whole however, I like the image cyclists present here, there's hardly anyone in lycra/helmet etc showing hopefully as the cruise by traffic jams how normal and efficient cycling is. Oh and the terrain and weather helps too
