I’m beginning to think that Mikey’s good work has been overshadowed by the amount of friction and hatred it has generated towards cyclists. It’s a shame really, I’d personally prefer he just went about his business without the smugness and the patronising nature.

…and don’t get me started on that clown Jeremy Vine 😬

Sorry folks.

There were too many people that waded in on the lady that fell/pushed into the Ashton Canal.

We have all seen the Mikey videos.

The first stop was absolutely fine. Driver went nuts but reversed.

BUT

The driver waited for a second go at an illegal move. This was not a driver you mess with.

Mikey made a stupid error at this point - he should have just filmed it. But he 'put' his bike in the way. It's now a criminal damage issue.

He's an intelligent person, this was an angry move. If you are doing this every day.... won't quote all the religious stuff, but 'glass house'..

So basically you're criticising him for being a bit too brave (probably brave than you would have been).

Two wrongs don't make a right. Not brave, down right stupid.

Both he and the driver could face prosecution - (Mikey on criminal damage).

Everyone here was very critical of the lady that fell/pushed into the canal, but folk on here think Mikey is some hero - he's becoming a nuisance. His recent actions are doing cyclist's reputation no favours.

I only found out about his latest 'stunt' from a friend of mine who is a local journalist - he's attracting all the wrong attention.

I also won't be throwing my bike in the path of a car ! I look after my property.

No, the criminal damage was by the driver, not Mikey. He didn't hit their car, he got in their way, they chose to accelerate hard, seeing him pushing the bike out. And hit that bike, quite lucky to avoid hitting him.

I have never thought Mikey is a hero.

What he does is vigilanteism, and that is not acceptable.

Video them, and report to the police/put up on youtube, fine. But confronting them, and more particularly taking the law into his own hands by preventing them breaking the law, no, that is not right IMO.

Agreed.

The both caused the collision, the driver continued to drive / accelerate having seen Mikey trying to block his path, and Mikey continued to rush to block his path despite seeing the driver accelerating. Both idiots. The motoring / e-bike pushing equivalent of two footballers hurting themselves going hell for leather into a tackle for a "50:50" ball

I agree.

Widening to more general crime, intervention is justified (albeit certainly not mandatory) if someone is being hurt by the actions of the perpetrator.

They car drove knowing full well a pedestrian (he was pushing the bike) was moving into its path. It was also a no entry.
The pedestrian moved in front of a moving car knowing it would have to perform an emergency stop to prevent from being hit. That is stupidity. That is not criminal damage.

The pedestrian could potentially be sued for causing the collision if the driver could prove that the pedestrian was negligent and they could not avoid the collision. Given the video, they'd have a hard time winning that.
