Thousands of cyclists, including some of Britain's Olympic stars, have taken part in a car-free ride through the streets of Manchester.

The London one is on Sunday 20th Sept, some info here http://new.britishcycling.org.uk/skyride/london although it now appears to be called Skyride (was called Freewheel last year)

It really was great fun. Lots of people out, all different ages/abilities, lots of kids. Also entertainment - people pedalling interesting bikes, penny farthings, all sorts.

BTW I didn't register, just arrived on the day. I got as far as entering my email address when it suddenly seemed that you had to sign your life away to both SKY and British Cycling. No-one was checking registrations or otherwise that I could tell.

Probably because they've been organised by British Cycling, who have excluded other cycling organisations such as the CTC and the LCC from the management of the rides.

Oh dear, poor promotion indeed!
