This thread reminded me that I saw a tuba player breathing fire through his instrument on the South Bank in June and hey presto, just found a photo!

Do you play Eflat or Bflat?
The solo euphonium player in my sons' youth brass band cycles to band with his euph in a trailer. Kudos to him!

I am an imposter as I have nothing to do with Tubas but this thread reminded me of this band.

What pieces are you playing for your grade 8?
I was quite partial to the Hindemith, but could never find a pianist good enough for the piano part.
I've only got as far as choosing Gregson's Tuba Concerto and starting work on the almost impossible technical exercises. It will take me at least a year I think.

The Gregson's a good one. I used to play the John Fletcher/Besses recording of it constantly when I was young.

I did the Capuzzi, the Hindemith and the Arnold. I played BBb not the 'single lung' Eb so some of the other pieces were a bit too high! Although later on my range improved to tackle some of the higher tuba repertoire.

Take your time, learn your craft, it's not a race! Enjoy the journey.
