can we add 'to the moon and back' to that list?
Of course, any contributions welcome! The less traceable to any known standard the better, and something like that which isn't constant is ideal.

I heard a weight of 2 blue whales quoted recently, thought that was a good one.

I'm confuzzled as to how big this iceburg actually is?

They measure the length and the width but what about the depth?
IIRC an iceburg has only 30% of it's mass above water.;)
How deep is a Luxumburgh?

Depths have to be in double decker busses to be valid. To get the volume you multiply the area in Belgiums by the depth in German double decker trains to get cubic widths of the North Sea.

A more precise and accurate measure is the one given for the universe in Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Its big, really big.

I thought it was possible to work it out using the Benelux formula?

You thought it was a long way to the Chemists but that's just peanuts to space!;)

All you need is a glass the size of the Himalayas, filled with enough whisky to fill 4.1 x 10^7 olympic swimming pools. Then you use this thing that's fallen off the bottom of the world as an ice cube.

Not sure - it could be as deep as Big Ben is tall, maybe twice so.

We have just had the following sent out on a company communication ... a new standard for office sizing ...

office space of 40,000 sq m, equivalent to 5 Wembley Stadium football pitches

Therefore 1 Wembley Stadia football pitch (WSfp) = 8,000 sq m

Could we lay claim to it and drag it round the world's seas to wherever the oil is, like a moveable Falklands?

Now that's latteral thinking that is, that's thinking outside the envelope and pushing the box, or something.
