Got it on the cam and played it to my wife, who didn't think it showed too well how close he was, but you can see he's barely over the centreline. What annoys me is someone thinks it's OK to take risks with my safety because they don't agree with how I cycle!

anyone had the angry overtake when in a car?

we were waiting to turn right onto a road that spurs off at 45 degrees from the main road, stopped to wait for a bike to come through and the car behind us decided to try and turn into the road behind us, not waiting for the bike (cos he hadn't seen it) and had to stop sharpish when he spotted him.

the car then followed as close as he could to the back of our car (millie was driving) and got annoyed again when she slowed to turn right again due to an oncoming car.

I had a close overtake this morning, well two, the first one overtook wide but the close bit occurred when in his frenzy to overtake me he nearly hit the car coming the other way and cut in along with a load of horns blaring, then some knuckle dragger in a Astra Estate did it, to be honest it wasnt the closest I have ever had but I was pissed off at the first one and this idiot bullying his way through annoyed me further so as he went past I raised my hand in a gesture of "what was that" shoulder shrug sort of thing, no self-gratification artist signs, more for my benefit than his and he slammed on and screeched to a halt, I rode past and he started a tirade so I just said he was a bit close, he protested his innocence so I just said we would have to differ on that one then and that he should have a nice day, I suspect he had been looking back to see my reaction, I just decided to be nice as I dont want him giving me any further agro, its funny how ready he was with the agression and was looking for some back, I dont give any so off he went, really dont want to battle an Astra with 18 lb road bike !

I alternate between good days when I do, and bad days, when I think, why should I thank anybody for simply obeying the rules?

I'm like that with zebra crossings when I'm walking. Vehicles are supposed to stop, and yet we've (well, some people have) got it into our heads that we ought to thank them for it. We don't thank them for stopping at Pelican crossings...

As I posted earlier, its the oncoming fools who are overtaking and come into my lane and seem to ignore the fact I am cycling head on into them, that cause me the most angst.

This is where I would advocate using a really bright set of cycle lights, not the cheap ordinary type for town use, but a seriously bright set of lights which can be seen in day light (such as these). OK so they are not cheap (but what price do you put on your life), but the will make you more visible in a way that hiviz won't. If the light is bright enough it will make oncoming driver think that you are something big enough to do them damage if they hit you and (hopefully) think twice before crossing into your lane...
