Like a newly emancipated Suffragette, Chitty threw down her chains today and declared "NO MORE!"
Gone are the days of Chitty taking all the responsibility for changing gears whilst I simply come along for the ride.
Gone are the days of Chitty suffering bad gear choices and compensating for my lack of intelligence with her own "special choice"…subtly clicking and cracking herself into the "right" gear
Today, at 17 (odd) miles into my commute…Chitty's chain snapped.
Without a spare chain (or the smarts to fix a broken one) we had no choice but to walk the walk of shame and wander the 2 remaining miles with poor old chitty limping beside me looking for all the world like lame horse.
I really should have expected it earlier, I've done little to support the old girl other than a bit of spray lube and the occasional shower from the jet washer. Now, finally after nearly 2000 miles, my months of neglect have come home to roost and even Chitty's enthusiasm and endurance were tested to the limits …and beyond.
I feel so ashamed.
Still, on the bright side, even a lame bike makes for a pretty nifty scooter and I still managed to scoot the last mile quicker than I would on foot…..even if I did look a little "Victorian" in the process.
Man those chains are long…and really messy.
Looks like Chitty is about to be spoilt with a shiny new upgrade
