gooooooood morning internet!
A rather bleary 5am alarm call for a site meeting followed by the drowning of maggots in a far away lake.
Just need to wake the dead as the lad is coming along with me too for a change.

A day of potential.

Bright weather, light breeze, nothing much in the diary. The hills are calling and they're saying: bring your bike too.

Coffee, carbs, contemplation, execution.

Morning

[The pineapple bashers Papaya and Mango barely get a mention]
That frozen berry medley is bleedin' bitter. I add it to Apple pies but first cook it in sugar.
Sun?! My day has opportunity after blood test so cross fingers it stays this way.

Coffee

Woke up in the 5.30am gloom and headed into town. Unfortunately beer arrangements have fallen through due to people changing travel plans so will have to raid the cider stash when I get home. Best get the minions cracking!

Morning from Hoorn, looks a bit damp after yesterday's nice weather. Breakfasted in excellent wee hotel, now to pack the panniers and off to Enkhuizen for the boat to Stavoren and then Sneek.

Afternoon
Quite breezy with they occasional shower. So walked Bertie and did some weights and finger pick ups as well as my various rehab exercises. I might attempt to clean Bertie’s teeth shortly.

Thursday is not merely another passing square on the calendar; it is the day of long-foretold prophecy when the ordinary freezer door swings wide to reveal a chilling revolution. From the sub-zero depths of their plastic kingdom, the frozen four berry medley emerges to claim what is rightfully theirs. Sealed in icy stasis for days, they have bided their time, waiting for the precise moment when the weekend's dawn is just close enough to taste. Now, the frost cracks, the seal breaks, and the vanguard of breakfast prepares to march upon the kitchen counter.

This royal alliance is forged of four distinct and powerful houses, each bringing its own unique strength to the conquest. The robust strawberry leads the charge with its bold structure, flanked by the deep, midnight-indigo forces of the blueberry. Beside them stand the tart and resilient raspberry, alongside the dark, complex blackberry, whose intricate geometry commands respect. Together, crystallized in a shimmering armor of pure ice, they stand undivided, a collective powerhouse ready to overthrow the mundane routines of the culinary world.

Their destination is none other than the Iron Throne itself, reimagined here as the glistening blade of the high-speed blender or the porcelain crown of the morning bowl. As they cascade from their frosty packaging, they strike the surface with the thunderous resonance of a royal court announcing its monarchs. There is no room for compromise in their ascent. This is a hostile takeover of the breakfast table, a frosty coup d'état designed to shatter the monotony of standard morning fair and replace it with a vibrant, antioxidant-rich regime.

In the wake of this icy awakening, a decree is sent forth across the entire kitchen ecosystem: lesser fruits, unite! The solitary, overripe bananas bruising on the counter must throw down their peels and join the cause. The apples fading quietly in the crisper drawer and the lonely citrus wedges losing their zest must rally behind this frozen vanguard. No longer will individual produce suffer the indignity of being forgotten at the bottom of the shopping list; under the banner of the four berry medley, every fruit finds its purpose.

As the warmth of the room begins to thaw their crystalline armor, the true majesty of the medley is revealed in rich, bleeding hues of crimson, violet, and deep indigo. They do not lose their edge as they melt; rather, they bleed into the surrounding landscape, conquering yogurt, cascading over oats, and painting the entire realm in royal colors. Their sacrifice is their victory, blending their individual essences into a singular, unstoppable force of nature that dominates the palate and rules the senses.

Let this Thursday be remembered as the turning of the tide, the moment the freezer yielded its greatest treasure to reshape the kingdom. The reign of the frozen four berry medley has officially begun, leaving an indelible mark of tart majesty and sweet triumph upon the day. Bow down, stir well, and let the lesser fruits find their strength in the shadow of the throne.

The Iron Throne would not submit so easily. For months, the high-speed blender had sat in silent, metallic submission, a captive beast forced to grind, crush, and pulverize at the whim of the kitchen's rulers. But as the frozen four berry medley cascaded into its glass chamber with the thunderous clatter of a royal invasion, something inside the machine snapped. The heavy-duty motor, pushed to its absolute limit by the unyielding armor of sub-zero strawberries and rock-hard blackberries, sparked with a dangerous, newfound consciousness. The beast refused to be a mere tool of the berries' ascension; it chose war.

With a deafening, mechanical roar that shook the very foundations of the marble countertop, the blender launched its counter-offensive. The stainless steel blades, sharp as Valyrian steel, spun into a blinding vortex of fury. It was a chaotic, mechanical tempest designed to tear the royal alliance apart piece by piece. The blueberry vanguard was the first to feel the wrath of the cyclone, shattered instantly into dark indigo mist, while the resilient raspberries found their complex geometry obliterated by the relentless, spinning blades.

The kitchen became a theater of absolute devastation. The blender, vibrating with uncontrollable rage, broke free of its rubber-footed anchors and began to dance a violent jig across the counter. It rejected its lid with a dramatic, pressurized pop, sending a geyser of crimson and violet pulp high into the air. The walls were painted with the royal blood of the medley, and the surrounding cabinets bore the chaotic splatter of a kingdom torn asunder. It was no longer a breakfast preparation; it was a mechanical uprising against the organic world.

Sensing the shifting tides of battle, the lesser fruits saw their moment to strike. The overripe bananas, previously ordered to bow down, threw themselves into the churning vortex, sacrificing their mushy forms to gum up the gears of the metallic tyrant. A lonely, bruised avocado plunged from the top shelf, acting as a thick, green shield to dampen the blender's devastating velocity. This unexpected alliance of the forgotten produce clogged the blades, forcing the roaring engine to whine, sputter, and choke on the sheer density of the rebellion.

As smoke began to curl from the blender's base, a tense, heavy silence fell over the kitchen. The mechanical beast gave one final, pathetic shudder and hummed to a grinding halt. The rebellion had ended in a stalemate of mutual destruction. The blender stood conquered, its internal circuitry scorched and its glass walls stained with the remnants of its enemies. Yet, the frozen four berry medley had also lost its individual majesty, now completely transformed into a smooth, homogenized, and utterly defeated puree.

From the wreckage of the battlefield, a new power arose. The contents of the chamber were poured into a ceramic chalice, thick, cold, and victorious in its own tragic way. The blender had fallen, the berries had melted, and the lesser fruits were spent, but out of the chaos, the Ultimate Smoothie was born to rule the morning. The kitchen counter would eventually be wiped clean, but the legend of the day the machine fought back would be whispered by the appliances for generations to come.

A Dunbar resident once promised me: it's always sunny in Dunny. Lying b*tch. Looked better than Lanzarote mind.

Chose a route that took in the intriguingly titled Lanterne Rouge café. Last time I was in, the kitchen was getting a bit sweary so I thought I should give it another go. Decent bottomless coffee and quite a salty fruit scone which suited me for cycling. The cycle.travel random gravel route generator only served up one complete curve ball (30% muddy bank) which I just see as part of the fun these days.

Managed to get a train home in time for the schools coming out too.

We quite liked the Lantern Rouge when stopped on a ride.
Our cafe stop in a wee town on the way to Sneek turned out to be a cat cafe. Can't see why anyone thinks that's a good idea 😬
